Parenting is hard enough at the best of times.
There are the sleepless nights, the scraped knees and now, the decision whether or not to feed your kids organic food.
In the past five years, there’s been a considerable upswing in both the amounts of available organic foods as well as the consumers who are looking for these items. Many of these purchasers are parents, believing that organic is the best choice for their children. The purported lack of pesticides and dangerous chemicals, and greater nutritional values are just some of the reasons that parents choose organic food.
On the other side of the fence are those who make a decision to not choose to feed their children organic food for the following reasons:
- Cost – organic food is generally more expensive than non-organic
- Questionable nutritional value – Many believe that the jury is out regarding the purported value of organic food vs. non-organic
In researching this topic, I spoke to a number of people, from parents to doctors and more. There were strong feelings on both sides of the coin, as evidenced in the article that I wrote for the Globe and Mail and the following comments on the site.
