Happy New Year: This Blog’s Top 10 Posts of 2011

by Samantha on January 2, 2012

And so here we are in 2012.

Happy New Year and all that jazz.

2011 has come and gone. So quickly, it seems.

It was a very good year. But so are they all. That’s my attitude and I’m sticking to it.

I don’t do “resolutions.” I think that every day is an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and the changes that we may want to make. Living in the “here and now” provides us all with the opportunity to make change when and where we see fit. Writing about our frustrations is, for some of us, a way of finding out the very things that affect us on a personal level and, in the process finding out how to best deal with these issues. But I digress.

In terms of the year that’s just ended, it has been a year of learning and growth. From my perspective, the parental journey continued with many bumps along the way, and more than a few of which where chronicled on this blog. I admit that my personal frustrations have been heavily conveyed through writing, whether on this blog or elsewhere.

The subject matter?

Well, you know. It’s usually about kids, moms and parenting in general. Sometimes it’s been funny. Often it’s been inane. Perhaps even more often, ridiculous.

I started blogging in 2011 and I really didn’t know what I was doing. All I knew was that I needed an outlet for discussing the daily inanities (and indignities) of parenting. Having thousands of children (!) and feeling a bit stressed (just a bit), I turned to writing. Since that time, this blog has been my outlet and much, much more.

Through writing and expressing my frustration with some of the most galling and stress-inducing moments of being a mom, I’ve found not only catharsis, but some great friendships along the way. Virtual buddies are great to have and have become an unexpected treasure that has come along with this blog. Though I’ve never met many of you, I feel like I know some of you quite well. I hope you feel the same.

There have been some high notes and some good laughs. There have been many learnings and I continue to gain knowledge from both my experiences and many of you who have been kind enough to provide me your perspectives on some of the many topics that I have covered. Thank you for doing so.

The year that has passed has seen some of the more mundane yet relatable grievances of parents. I think it’s safe to say that I call it like I see it and in doing so, likely reflect the thoughts and feelings of so many other moms and dads out there. After all, we’re in the same boat, aren’t we?

To this end, here are my top 10 posts of 2011. These are either my personal faves or the ones upon which you have commented most:

Happy New Year and all the best for 2012!
