Is a work-life balance even possible these days? One has to wonder.

If you’re a parent, you likely struggle with balancing work and family life. Whether you go off to an office or another place of employment in the morning, or you’re a stay-at-home mom or dad, it’s still a fine balance. Trying to keep your family time separate from work commitments has always been a struggle, but it is increasingly more difficult in this day and age.

Digital technology has changed the way all of us work. With the ability to be “connected” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it’s never been more difficult to disconnect from work. Your boss my email you after dinner, with the expectation that you will complete a given task by morning. Your client may find you on Twitter and send you a tweet - making it even more difficult for you to avoid them as they’ve seen you tweeting about personal stuff during the same evening.

A lot of press has been given to Yahoo CEO Melissa Mayer’s decision to eliminate the work-from-home option for her employees. As many of us know, being able to telecommute is one of the ways that those with family commitments are able to better balance their responsibilities. With the ability to do so being revoked by Mayer, are other companies now going to follow suit? And regardless of whether or not they are, parents will continue to be on the 24/7 clock enabled by the digital world in which we all exist.

So this week’s question is as follows:

Is work-life balance really possible in the age of digital technology? Why or why not? Answer in the comments below.
